Good morning, and welcome to Grace For Another Morning.

A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

Proverbs 14:30

There is a kind of thief that can enter our lives without making a sound.

It does not break a window. It does not force open a door. Sometimes we invite it in simply by looking too long at what someone else has.

That thief is envy.

Envy begins with comparison.

Someone else seems to have more money.

Someone else has the home we wish we had.

Someone else's family appears happier.

Someone receives the opportunity we wanted.

Someone's prayer seems to have been answered while ours remains unanswered.

Before long, instead of thanking God for what He has placed in our hands, we begin concentrating on what He has placed in someone else's.

And peace quietly disappears.

The danger of envy is that it rarely improves anything we are unhappy about. It simply makes us dissatisfied with the blessings we already possess.

We can have food on the table and feel poor because someone else has a larger house.

We can have people who genuinely love us and feel lonely because someone else's life looks more exciting.

We can have countless answers to prayer and still become discouraged because God answered someone else's prayer differently.

Comparison can make abundance feel like scarcity.

God never asked us to live someone else's life.

He has given each of us a different road to walk, different responsibilities to carry, different blessings to receive, and different lessons to learn.

That means another person's blessing is not evidence that God has forgotten you.

Their success does not diminish God's ability to provide for you.

Their opportunity did not empty God's storehouse.

Their answered prayer did not use up the last portion of His grace.

There is enough grace in the hand of God for both of you.

One of the greatest defenses against envy is gratitude.

Gratitude turns our eyes away from what we lack and helps us recognize what God has already provided.

Maybe everything is not the way you hoped it would be this morning.

But there is still something for which you can thank Him.

Another sunrise.

Another breath.

A meal.

A friend.

A place to rest.

A prayer God answered years ago that you now take for granted.

And above all, the presence of a God who has promised never to leave you.

Peace returns when we stop measuring our lives against someone else's.

You do not need their life.

You need God's presence in yours.

Grace for Today

When comparison begins stealing your peace today, stop and name three things God has already placed in your life for which you can genuinely thank Him.

Gratitude will not give you everything someone else has.

It will remind you how much God has already given you.

A Prayer for Today

Father, forgive me for the times I have compared my life with someone else's and allowed envy to steal my peace.

Teach me to rejoice when others are blessed instead of wondering why their blessing did not come to me.

Open my eyes to the goodness You have already placed in my life.

Give me a grateful heart and help me trust that You know exactly what I need and exactly when I need it.

Let my contentment rest in You rather than in possessions, recognition, success, or comparison.

Thank You for Your faithfulness and for every blessing I have overlooked.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Someone else's blessing does not mean there is less blessing available for you.

Walk your road with God today.

Thank Him for what is already in your hands, trust Him with what is still missing, and do not allow comparison to steal the peace He has given you.
