Good morning, and welcome to Grace For Another Morning.

“A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left.”

Ecclesiastes 10:2

Every day, our hearts lean somewhere.

They lean toward wisdom or foolishness.

Toward patience or irritation.

Toward forgiveness or resentment.

Toward faith or fear.

Toward God or toward whatever seems easiest in the moment.

Ecclesiastes gives us a short verse with a powerful picture:

“A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left.”

In the language of Scripture, the right hand often represented strength, honor, skill, and the proper direction. Solomon is not giving us a lesson about being right-handed or left-handed. He is describing the direction of the heart.

The wise person has a heart inclined toward what is right.

The fool allows the heart to drift toward what is wrong.

That makes this verse deeply personal, because many of the most important decisions we make begin long before anyone else can see them.

They begin with the direction of the heart.

Before harsh words leave the mouth, the heart has usually been leaning toward anger.

Before forgiveness is offered, the heart has begun leaning toward mercy.

Before someone walks away from God, there has often been a quiet inward drifting.

And before someone takes a courageous step of faith, the heart has already begun leaning toward trust.

The direction may seem small at first.

Think about a car traveling down a long highway. If the steering wheel is only slightly turned, the vehicle may appear to be traveling straight for a while.

But given enough distance, that small angle can carry it far away from where it was supposed to go.

Our hearts can do the same thing.

A little bitterness tolerated today can become deep resentment later.

A small compromise can become a habit.

A neglected prayer life can slowly become spiritual distance.

But the opposite is also true.

A small decision to pray this morning can strengthen your walk with God.

One act of forgiveness can begin healing something that has hurt for years.

One decision to open Scripture instead of feeding fear can redirect an entire day.

One quiet act of obedience can place your feet back on the road God desires for you.

That is why Proverbs tells us:

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

The heart matters because life flows from it.

Jesus also taught that our words and actions reveal what has been gathering within us.

Eventually, whatever direction the heart has been leaning begins to show.

So perhaps the question for this morning is not simply, “What am I doing?”

The deeper question is:

Which way is my heart leaning?

Is it leaning toward Christ?

Is it leaning toward prayer?

Is it leaning toward compassion?

Is it leaning toward obedience?

Or has something quietly begun pulling it another direction?

You do not have to wait until you are miles down the wrong road before correcting your course.

God can redirect a heart today.

A prayer can begin that turning.

Confession can begin that turning.

Forgiveness can begin that turning.

Opening the Word of God can begin that turning.

Sometimes the wisest thing we can do is simply recognize the drift and turn the wheel.

This morning, ask God to examine the direction of your heart.

Not merely your outward behavior.

Not merely what other people see.

The heart.

Because when the heart leans toward God, the feet are much more likely to follow.

Grace for Today

Pay attention to the small direction of your heart today. A slight turn toward God, repeated faithfully, can change the course of your entire journey.

A Prayer for Today

Father, search my heart and show me where it is leaning. If I have begun drifting toward anger, fear, bitterness, pride, or anything that draws me away from You, help me turn back. Give me wisdom to choose what is right, humility to receive Your correction, and courage to follow where You lead. Let my thoughts, words, and decisions today come from a heart that is leaning toward You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

You may not be able to see the entire road ahead this morning, but you can choose the direction of your next step.

Keep your heart leaning toward God.

Keep listening for His wisdom.

Keep choosing what draws you closer to Christ.

A faithful life is often built one small turn at a time.

And by the grace of God, today can be a turn in the right direction.
